Toritsugiyakusho (Mediating office)
(former doshin official’s residence)

During the time of the Administrative Office, this building was the residence of lower ranking officials known as jitsuki-doshin from Hyogo-no-tsu. When the Hyogo Administrative Office was established, three doshin officials relocated from Hida-Takayama, and each was given a space within the office grounds. Records show that the residence of a jitsuki-doshin official named Yamazaki Sanzaemon, who worked at the Hyogo yakusho (the regional government office), was transformed into working quarters for village headmen. It is thought that this is the residence mentioned in those records. In the time of the Hyogo courthouse, the building was renamed toritsugiyakusho, or mediating office. One headman from each of the towns in Hyogo-no-tsu would work in this office, overseeing Hyogo-no-tsu and its surrounding villages and mediating lawsuits.
